February 2026

Dear Members and Friends of WSPCA,

We first want to express our gratitude for the work you do every day in our communities.  Whether you are in law enforcement, loss prevention, private industry, a community-based organization, health care or campus security, or just someone who gives a damn, our communities are safer and thriving because of your efforts.

Your Washington State Crime Prevention Association has been hard at work, and we have a full year of activities planned.  Before we get to that, here’s a few highlights of what we’ve been up to.

CPTED Certification Training Class, January 28-30, 2026

CPTED Certification Training Class, January 28-30, 2026

Thank you to Seattle Children’s Hospital for hosting our most recent CPTED Certification course.  Special thanks to Seattle Children’s security team for making the arrangements, and big thanks to Angel Cheng for making sure we had coffee and Continental Breakfast every day.  What was impactful about this class is that three of the four locations that were evaluated happened to be Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) properties.  The findings were significant and the recommendations made by the evaluation teams were shared with SPR for their follow-up.  Great job, Class!!

WSCPA in Dallas!

WSCPA Board members Jennifer Satterwhite, Katelyn Yep, Mark Solomon and Sandra Havlik with Art Hushen, founder of the National institute of Crime Prevention (NICP) and Association

Several of our Board members attended the annual US CPTED Association Conference in Dallas, TX, February 4-6, 2026.  We learned new ideas, emerging practices, and innovative approaches to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design.  We also connected with representatives from other State Crime Prevention Associations.  We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to represent Washington State on a national level and look forward to sharing this information with you to strengthen our work and better serve our members.

New US CPTED Association Board Member

USCA Executive Director, Art Hushen and WSCPA President, Mark Solomon

We’re also incredibly proud to share that our President, Mark Solomon, has been selected to join the board of The U.S. CPTED Association.  A well-deserved recognition and an exciting step that strengthens the partnership between our organizations.

48th Annual Conference: Call for Committee Members

We seek your assistance and participation in shaping what our upcoming conference will look like.  If you are interested in being part of the conference planning committee, please email us directly at info@wscpa.net

48th Annual Conference: Call for Speakers

Do you have a program or initiative that your colleagues would benefit from knowing about?  How about a case study of Crime Prevention or Community Engagement in action.  How can what you’ve done in your community or for your industry be replicated in other communities? Bottom line, would you like to be a presenter at our upcoming conference?  We are accepting proposals for speakers and topics for our October conference.  Submissions are now open and will remain open until July 31, 2026.  The conference Committee will send out acceptance notices by August 10, 2026.  For more information and to submit proposals. Please contact us at info@wscpa.net and use Conference in the subject line.
